NEW SERVICE !!! Running Gait Analysis

We are pleased to announce our new service  “Gait Analysis For Runners” So who will this help?  It will help all runners. You might be an experienced  runner who is trying to improve your race times or perhaps you are constantly plagued with running related injuries such as shin splints, Achilles or general ankle issues, plantar fasciitis, runners knee, or more general knee, hip or back pain. Alternatively, you might be completely new to running and experiencing unfamiliar muscular issues or wanting a complete check over before embarking on your running journey.  Whichever camp you fall into, this new service will help.  How will it help and how does our assessment differ from the traditional treadmill gait analysis ? We will analyse your running gait using video technology. In the past, you may well have had your gait tested on a treadmill especially if you are in a running shop about to purchase new shoes. That test will probably have told you if you over pronate or over supinate which is important to know. But our assessment goes much further. Firstly we will have you run outside, because we want to see your true running style. When you run on a treadmill, the treadmill sweeps your foot back so you don’t need to engage your glutes. However using your glutes is essential especially if you are trying to improve your speed but also strong glutes help reduce injury risk. Our assessment will be able to determine how well your glutes are working in addition to assessing your running style. We will also carry out an assessment of your feet, posture and generally physicality during the run and also in the treatment room. With both your gait and physical assessment we will then be able to determine if your running gait and or physicality is either causing you to be a less efficient and therefore slower runner OR is causing or likely to cause injuries. We will then, if required, provide you with a strengthening / rehab plan and also any other recommendations if appropriate.  What do you need to do? Call us or book in online. Bring all of your running shoes so that we can see you run in them and also we can check the treads, as that will assist with our assessment. Also, if you routinely run with any other kit such as a water bottle or a waist bag please bring them along. If you want an assessment but you are unable to get into the treatment room, please call as we can also provide a remote service.  If you think you may benefit from this, then do get in touch or book an appointment online. Alternatively do check our blog for more details about how your running style, can affect your risk of injury.  We look forward to hearing from you

We are pleased to announce that we are now offering Physical Therapy sessions

We are pleased to announce that we are now offering Physical Therapy sessions in conjunction with our Soft Tissue Therapy sessions, to help you achieve long term pain relief from your muscular aches and pains.

Often if you are suffering with a niggling muscular pain, that hasn’t been caused by an accident or injury, there will be a muscular imbalance somewhere else that is causing the issue. For example, if you are suffering with lower back pain and you have never had an injury or disc issues then it may be that weak glutes or maybe even your feet (yes, I know it sounds crazy but it is true) might be, at best, exacerbating the pain. Likewise if you are a runner with knee pain, or you are constantly sitting at a computer and suffer with tight neck, shoulders and headaches, the actual cause of the problem might be your core or again your glutes.

Deep tissue massage and soft tissue therapy will absolutely help relieve symptoms but often we will also recommend specific exercises to aid not only with pain relief but also minimise the risk of a repetition of the issue. So for example if you have shoulder pain and we determine that this is due to a weak rotator cuff, in addition to the soft tissue therapy, we will provide a programme of stabilisation and strength exercises. Likewise if your knees are causing issues we may well provide a glute activation and strengthening programme.

Also remember, tight muscles do not always need stretching, often strengthening is what is required. Sometimes stretching a tight muscle can worsen the issue. For example, repeated stretching of painfully tight hamstrings may make matters worse and tight hamstrings can lead to tight calves and Achilles issues. It may be strengthening that will help. Similarly, you may constantly have a knot or tightness around your shoulder blade which isn’t responding to massage or stretches . Physical therapy to help strengthen and mobilise your upper back, might be a better option.

We already do provide a rehab plan, when appropriate, with relevant exercises and videos, but so many of our clients requested additional time to run through the exercises prescribed that we decided to create this service . We also found that many of our clients, once their specific issue was fixed, still wanted us to create and go through a more general plan focused on simple but important exercises, stretches and mobility drills to help with core stability, improve shoulder health and generally reduce the likelihood of niggling muscular pains. Because of this we now see clients for Physical Therapy sessions.

Do get in touch if you think that you may benefit from a physical therapy sessions.

Don’t suffer in silence.

How we are keeping you safe, following the relaxation of the Covid restrictions …

Dear Customers, I hope you are all well and pain free.

I just wanted to update you with our current protocols, in view of the recent relaxation of Covid restrictions.

Although there is no longer a legal requirement to self isolate if you test positive for Covid, we, at The Oxford Body Whisperer, are still committed to minimising any potential risks to our customers or ourselves. Therefore we will be implementing the following:

  • We will cancel any appointments if we test positive or display any cold or flu symptoms.
  • We will continue to wear masks during the treatment and we will ensure that the treatment room is thoroughly sanitised and ventilated between appointments.
  • We will require that our new “Wellness” questionnaire is completed and returned by each client, before attending the treatment room. If you feel unwell, we kindly ask that you reschedule your treatment.
  • We would ask that you continue to wear masks during your treatment BUT if you are unable to wear a mask please can you let us know in advance of the treatment. If you are unable to wear a mask we will treat you but we will be unable work around the neck or face area.

We trust that the above is all okay but please do get in touch if you have any questions. Otherwise stay safe and well and we look forward to seeing you soon.

We now offer Dry Cupping Therapy

We are very excited to introduce DRY CUPPING to our list of therapies.

Although it is very trendy now, (remember the 2016 summer Olympics when Michael Phelps sported his red and purple spotted back) it is an ancient form of alternative medicine, used for thousands of years to primarily remove, or “suction” unwanted materials from the body.

Today it is used as a complementary and alternative therapy to help treat a variety of muscular issues and provide relaxation.

Although there is very little scientific research supporting or disproving the benefits of cupping, it is generally accepted that it helps with pain, inflammation, circulation and relaxation. If you are suffering with back pain, neck or shoulder tension, tension headaches or even a more specific issue like Plantar Fasciitis, you might want to try it out.

Do let your therapist know if you would like to try cupping as part of your next treatment

We look forward to seeing you soon

We Are Opening on the 2nd December !!!

WE WILL BE OPENING on 2nd Dec

We are very excited to announce that, following the recent government briefing, we will be reopening our doors on Wednesday 2nd December and cannot wait to see you all again.

As before, we will be following the following COVID secure policies, guidelines and proceeders so please do check them out if you haven’t been to us for a while.

  1. In order to minimise the amount of talking in the treatment room and thus reduce the risk of transmission, you will be asked to complete a consultation and Covid screening form online and in advance of your appointment. Where possible, we will try and arrange a short online assessment to further understand your issues, before you arrive.
  2. If you fall into the “vulnerable category”, for example if you have been advised to shield or if you have been in hospital with Covid19, then you will need to get your GPs approval before we can treat you.
  3. Unless you need to be accompanied by a guardian or parent, we would ask that you attend the appointment on your own.
  4. As far as possible, we would ask that you leave any outdoor clothing or unnecessary items in the boot of your car rather than bringing them into the treatment room.
  5. When you arrive, you will be asked to don a mask and you will be offered hand sanitiser before entering the treatment room.
  6. At the moment, it is not possible to treat the face
  7. Where possible, payment should be made either online or via a card in order to minimise cash handling.

If you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. Otherwise do book and we look forward to seeing you at the clinic very soon.
